Since I spent yesterday customizing everything that appears outside of the content area of my twitter page, it’s appropriate that today is spent on creating a larger collection of tweets. While I’m working at becoming a respected authority in the world of web design and marketing, I realize that I have yet to create an extensive body of work that I can call my own. That being said, there are many blogs and news sites that I come across on a daily basis that I feel are important to me and I would like to share with my followers. While I could always retweet a blog that I find in my twitter account, there are tools that take an RSS feed and post it directly to twitter as a new post appears.
When I first started posting RSS feeds I used a program called twitterfeed.com once you create an account and a connection to your twitter account – all you need to do is find the URL of the RSS feed and twitterfeed does the rest.
Since I’ve started using hootsuite, I’ve discovered that they also have the functionality to post an RSS feed to one or all of my twitter, facebook, linkedin and ping.fm accounts. Once a feed is posted I can track stats for the number of link clicks that a particular link receives.
Adding feeds to your twitter account is a good idea for several reasons.
- You can feed content automatically from your own blog
- Tweets appear automatically in your account over night, or if you take a day off
- You can feature content written by associates, news sites, resource sites or for your followers
- Followers are more likely to list your tweets since you have recent, reliable, interesting content
Today I added 2 feeds to my hootsuite account and look forward to adding several more in the coming days but I only planned on spending a ½ hour today.
I added our blog feed from QT Web Designs: http://qtweb.ca/news/feed
I added the feed of marketing and branding expert Seth Godin: http://feeds.feedburner.com/typepad/sethsmainblog
