1000 Followers Day 10 – The Finish Line and Beyond

I did it! After 10 days of simple but focused work – at 1:28pm EST on December 31st I finally gained my 1000th follower on Twitter – more than 8 hours ahead of my self-imposed 10 Day deadline.

In 10 days, I followed an average of 140 people per day and gained an average of 105 followers per day. I developed a twitter profile, began tweeting and started using some time saving programs that allowed me to control tweets and news feeds in other social networking sites and also add automatic RSS feeds to my twitter account. I did all that, in less than 10 total hours (under 1 hour/day on average). I feel that this program is not only easy for the novice social networker, it is a good way of managing your time by only spending 1 hour max per day.

The question I have been getting from people who have been following along with the Quest for 1000 followers is “once I get to 1,000 followers on twitter, what now?” The only thing I can say is: it’s up to you.

What was your initial motivation for using Twitter and gaining followers in the first place?

  • Was it to connect with people from around the word?
  • To become an authority in your field?
  • To entice others to learn more about you or your company?
  • To develop more sales and traffic to your website or blog?
  • Or all of the above?

No matter what your motivation, gaining 1,000 more followers than you had a week and a half ago is definitely a start, and what you choose to do in Twitter from now on is up to you. You may choose to continue at this pace and gain over 30,000 followers in the next year, or you may go at a slower pace, whatever you choose to do, I would recommend consistency. Consistency in the way that you follow people, consistency in the way that you tweet, consistency in the quality and material that you tweet about, and finally consistency in the rest of your online presence including blog, website, other social networking accounts etc…

In my case, I plan on sticking to the plan of following people from the various sources that I’ve outlined over the course of the last 10 days, and directing people to my blogs and websites to learn more about me and my services.

I hope you enjoyed following along with me for the past 10 days and thanks for all the emails and tweets of encouragement.

Finally, I want to thank all the people who did follow me over the past 10 days and I commit to improving your twitter experience in the weeks, months and years to come with interesting content that will come in handy for you.
